When did you find yourself falling in love with dance?
When I first started dancing, I had a very rigid idea of what dance was. When I got to high school, I began exploring different styles. This broadened my definition of dance and I was able to love and appreciate it in a way I had not previously. 

Which HKYAF production was your most unforgettable experience?
I think it would have to be my first project with YAF back in 2013. It was for the 85th anniversary of the Peninsula Hotel. This is the one that truly started my journey and inspired me to continue growing as a dancer.

What is the audition process like?
The audition process takes place over two rounds. In the first round, dancers are led through a warm-up and taught short phrases of choreography. Once they’re familiar with the phrases, dancers are divided into smaller groups. The audition panel carefully deliberates and invites a shortlisted group of dancers for a callback session. The second session involves a similar process.

As a Likes & Lies choreographer, what qualities do you look for in your dancers?
In addition to musicality, I definitely look for energy and enthusiasm.
 
What tips do you have for dancers performing unfamiliar routines at auditions?
Make sure you have a can-do attitude, even before you get to the audition, it can work wonders! Be open minded! If you come across something unfamiliar, take a deep breath. There is no need to get nervous! Just try your best and give it a go. 

What should a dancer do if they forget their steps in an audition?
My biggest piece of advice is, don't panic! Try your best to stay calm, catch up and keep going! 

How do you destress the night before?
I always try to get an early night. Getting plenty of rest helps me focus the next day.

Any final words of advice?
Honestly, just be yourself. The audition is an opportunity for you to show us who you are, so don’t try to be anything else!
